I made it to page 31 yesterday (both kids were out last night, so I just kept going when I got to page 25). And I’m on page 54 right now. (Though there’s one thing…a big thing…I need to go back to on page 31 because I’m not sure what to do with that yet. Depending on what I end up doing, I may have to weave the change I make there through the rest of the book, and I want to think about how those potential changes would play out as I go through the manuscript this time.) So that means I have 21 pages to do tomorrow.
While I haven’t played my mandolin yet today, I did spend some time researching new mandolins (yes, I need a new one already…remember, the one I have came from a FLEA MARKET…and it plays like it came from a flea market, too…so I’m going to use that free money I got last week and trade my crappy mandolin in for a decent starter instrument). I also took a 22-mile bike ride before the Hawkeye fans took over my trail TOO much (yes, it’s Game Day in Iowa City). So I haven’t been chained to my desk all day. I’ve been disciplined, but not chained.
You’re doing great, Dori! I had to work today, then have been having terrible problems with allergies and not feeling well (excuses, excuses!). But the main thing is, I figured out how to do a very short chapter 1 that doesn’t include the MC. That had been giving me a hard time, but I felt like this was the best way to start the story (just couldn’t come up with the structure), but now I believe I’ve got it. Well, in my mind anyway.
I’m not going to open the store tomorrow. I’d rather write, even though I’ll be giving up $$$. But I must do the 500 words.
What I need is to find another employee. 🙂
Anyway, I’ll check in with you.

mb (I love to bike, too). Have you ever read MILES FROM NOWHERE, about the young couple who biked across America and then Europe? I really enjoyed it!
But you DID make it! Good for you, too!
And no, I haven’t read MILES FROM NOWHERE…I’m not sure I even knew about that one, but I’m going to look for it. The other book I want to read is WHERE THE PAVEMENT ENDS, about a woman’s solo bicycle trip through Mongolia, China and Vietnam.
