Somebody in my Friday Ideas group told us about Project 365, which is this thing where you take one picture every day for a year. What a great idea for those of us who seem to have too many staged “occasion” pictures and not enough “real life” pictures. Though it drives me nuts to start a project like this on some day OTHER THAN January 1, I’m trying to get over it. Teen says New Year’s Resolutions are stupid because you should be able to start a resolution ANYTIME, not just the first of the year (he’s got a point!), so one should be able to start a project like this anytime, too. Besides, today is my mother-in-law’s birthday…and I actually like my mother-in-law (and no, I don’t think she reads this, so I’m not just saying that), so starting a project like this on her birthday (BTW, she and my father-in-law are in EGYPT right now…how cool is that???) is almost as good as starting it on the first of the year.
So…what to take a picture of today??? Here are my choices:
1) The 3-4 inches of snow out my window. This is the first snow we’ve gotten this winter, so that would be worth noting. But the snow actually came this weekend and finished yesterday, so that might have been a better choice for yesterday than today.
2) I could’ve taken a picture of Teen on his way out the door…today is the first day of second semester at the University, which means I have a very quiet house today. But that opportunity is gone…
3) If I’d quit blogging (and quit obsessing over things I could take a picture of) and get back to work (hey, I’ve been sticking to my 2 pages before I blog rule!), there’s a CHANCE I could take a picture of myself typing THE END on the first draft of T.M.S. That’s a possibility…
4) I could take a picture of my Toastmaster’s group (we’re meeting tonight) because joining Toastmasters is something I did recently to “better myself” (it might be working…), so I should definitely document that at some point…but maybe I’ll hold off on that until I actually give my first speech. I’m just the grammarian tonight…
5) I could take a picture of my local writers group (we’re ALSO meeting tonight)…they’re an important part of my life…and tonight would be a good night to do that since we’re discussing the first 118 pages of T.M.S.
6) I could wait until Preteen gets home…he’s a pretty interesting guy…he’s the one in the family who is most likely to be doing something worth taking a picture of on any given day…but when I see him, I will just be dropping him off at home and then heading off to Toastmaster’s, so I won’t have much chance to catch him doing something interesting today…and the whole point of this is to take more pictures of daily life rather than just posed pictures…
Hmm…if I’m going to obsess this much over what to take a picture of each day, maybe this isn’t such a great project for me? (I’ll bet my mother-in-law is taking pictures today…okay, maybe my father-in-law is taking them…if I was in Egypt, I’d have plenty of photo subjects to choose from, too…but then again, if I was in Egypt, those would hardly be “daily life” pictures, would they? I have NO problem taking pictures when we’re on vacaction…it’s the natural, day-to-day stuff that I want to be better at capturing…)
