I got an e-mail from the Iowa City Public Library on the over-sized chess (and checkers) pieces. They’ve changed their policy! As of this week, the chess pieces circulate to ANYONE (even people who live in Coralville!) on a first-come, first-served basis (so no reserves). They still circulate overnight (which doesn’t affect my life any…I’m still not going to drag them home with me)…I’m guessing that’s because they can’t tell their computer to circulate anything for less than a day. Hooray!
Apparently, my second letter (which basically outlined point-by-point why their policy was, well…stupid), didn’t tick them off too much. And it was a good lesson for Preteen. He learned that sometimes you can get something changed.
So…there’s no school next Wednesday. If the weather cooperates, and the pieces are available, we’re going to go downtown and play! (Yes, outside…in November…in Iowa…we’ve waited a long time for this!) Which means I need to stay on track with my pages…I did my five pages yesterday. I need to do five today, five tomorrow, five on Monday and five on Tuesday. That will bring me to page 75. My plan is to reread those 75 pages over Thanksgiving weekend, make sure I’m satisfied with them, then send them to my critique group, which will be meeting a week later.
This isn’t going to be a really long book…I’m guessing somewhere around 125 pages…
Good for you and your son!
